The Rural School and Community Trust’s Center for Midwestern Initiatives website is your chance to give voice to a movement—a movement dedicated to the belief that education is the lynchpin issue in rural development.
We invite you to become a member of the Center for Midwestern Initiatives (CMI) learning community. When you subscribe to the CMI blog, you become an active participant in a purposeful conversation about strengthening small schools, small towns, and rural neighborhoods. You will learn about exemplary place-based learning efforts, exciting school and community foundation strategies and accomplishment, and how select colleges and universities are preparing a new wave of rural teachers who will become ardent advocates for their students, schools, and regions.
There is a catch, though. Although no membership fee is required to subscribe, we do ask that you personally commit to making at least one contribution a year to the site. This can be a personal essay on a rural education topic, description of a successful teaching strategy or community project, or a student-produced film on ways young people are making their towns better—anything that you believe will add value to our effort.
Please know that when you subscribe to the site, you will receive a personal note from us thanking you for your support and encouraging your participation.
A healthy American future needs a vibrant rural landscape. We must achieve a more harmonic balance between urban and rural. Forests die off when they lose their diversification, and so can nations. Please commit to joining an important cause.
